In Searching For Big Data Answers, State Street Queries Academia

When I was growing up, I lived close enough to Hewlett-Packard headquarters that I could ride my bicycle there. So I’m more than familiar with the idea of the private sector partnering with academia. It was Frederick Terman, engineering professor to the HP founders, who suggested back in 1939 that they establish their company in Palo Alto in order to benefit from the proximity of Stanford University.
