Let's Talk About The Gender Pay Gap

Think Progress recently highlighted stats around the ongoing gender wage gap (at 22% overall) in nearly every kind of job. These days, public sector roles appear to have much more transparent pay structures, which has ultimately led to smaller pay gaps and greater employee empowerment to discuss rates of compensation. However, in the private sector, salaries are much less transparent, and in the recent Sony hack, some private salaries were exposed. When Charlize Theron found out that she was making $10 million less than her male costar, Chris Hemsworth, she was then able to negotiate her salary to be on par with his. However, she wasn't alone at Sony; of the 6,000 employees, just one of the 17 who made $1 million or more was a woman.
