India: The Road To Jaipur (And Back) -- Challenges of Destitution And Infrastructure

Among various “post-retirement” activities I am a visiting professor at NIIT University (NU) in Neemrana, Rajasthan (India), where I am involved in a new initiative: The Asian Lenses Forum (TALF). Neemrana is situated on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Delhi. It is in the process of establishing industrial parks and seeking to lure foreign investment. There are Japanese and Korean industrial zones, including a factory of Takata, the manufacture of, among other things, airbags, about which I wrote an earlier blog. These industrial developments represent important pillars of the Modi “made-in-India” campaign and his pledge to generate sustained inclusive economic growth.
