Flight attendants “are here primarily for your safety.” I've heard this message many times, and I've always believed it. So help me understand why the flight I just took (on a major—one of the most major—U.S. carriers) featured a fight attendant texting every moment he thought passengers couldn't see him, behavior that rendered him fully detached from passengers and their needs and wishes except for those few minutes when he was visibly "conducting the cabin service"?
