There was a day when each point of contact with a target audience was a costly endeavor, one that required tremendous research, forethought, and integration across all consumer touchpoints by a cross-functional team. Today marketers can reach their targets with the push of a button at virtually no cost via an email address or a Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram account. Without requiring production of a $350k television commercial and a multimillion-dollar media plan extensively analyzed to optimize the cost per thousand reached, contact with current and potential customers can be more frequent and casual. Relationships between marketers and their buyers can be built (and destroyed) at warp speed.
