It’s the secret that everyone knows, but no one wants to admit—that very few of us achieved our current employment status because we followed a brilliant master plan, strategy, or map. In fact, most of us got to where we are today because our career was fluid, figuring out the road ahead as we progressed—repelling situations, projects and people we didn’t like, and following those we did like. Perhaps writer and author Austin Kleon clarified it best in a recent blog post by writing, “How you got here was not premeditated. Do not pretend otherwise.”
